Exhibition Title: Beyond Gravity
Swissnex in Japan · As part of Expo 2025 Osaka
From 30th July - 13th October

In his series Beyond Gravity, Swiss artist Andrea Giuseppe Corciulo creates poetic visual worlds that seem to defy gravity. The starting point of each work is a delicate collage made of paper and light, carefully arranged, illuminated, and captured photographically in the studio. The resulting shadow images resemble fleeting dream fragments – weightless and detached. Immediately after the photograph is taken, the original installation is dismantled and destroyed. What remains are photographic traces of ephemeral formations, where light, shadow, and visual fragments enter into a fragile, almost meditative balance.

Corciulo’s work draws on found materials: plants, animals, objects, and figures – sourced from old books – lose their original context and encounter one another in new, surreal constellations. These visual scores follow an internal dramaturgy that combines memory, transformation, and dissolution. Much like human memory, fragments are reassembled, meanings are shifted, and new perspectives emerge.

On the occasion of Expo 2025 in Osaka, Corciulo will present a site-specific installation within the framework of Swissnex in Japan, the Swiss platform for exchange in science, innovation, and the arts. His photographs will be printed on semi-transparent fabric panels and installed in the exhibition’s window façades. Visible from both inside and outside, these layered image spaces interact with light, surroundings, and transparency. Complementing the window installations, the artist will show ten smaller works printed on white PVC inside the venue – echoing and amplifying the impact of the larger pieces.

With Beyond Gravity, Andrea Giuseppe Corciulo intertwines scientific themes such as botany, gravity, and geology with artistic intuition and reflection. His works invite viewers to engage with perception, memory, and imagination – an invitation to think beyond the visible.

Andrea Giuseppe Corciulo has been creating captivating visual worlds for over 30 years, where collage, painting, and sculptural objects come together. His wide-ranging artistic practice moves between analog and digital techniques to form new, often surreal compositions. Corciulo’s works encourage viewers to look beyond visible reality and discover unexpected connections that spark reflection and challenge perception.
